CANADIAN FAMILY VISA

One of Canada’s immigration system fundamentals is the family visa system. Since World War 2, Canada has attempted to welcome immigrants to boost its economy. Canada is looking forward to reuniting families and being compassionate. As a result, the family class is the second most newcomers received by Canada under its Immigration Levels Plan.

Moreover, to help its post-COVID economic recovery, Canada is pursuing the highest levels of immigration in its history. As an effect, Canada expects to welcome over 400,000 new immigrants every year, with over 100,000 coming through family visas.

The Department of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is in charge of the country’s immigration system. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) was the previous name for the department.

The IRCC is responsible for establishing and administering Canada’s family Visa sponsorship program. Establishing program requirements, accepting and assessing family visa sponsorship applications, and issuing permanent and temporary residence visas are all part of this process.

WHAT IS CANADIAN FAMILY VISA SPONSORSHIP?

Sponsorship has two fundamental components:

It allows a family member to immigrate to Canada and get permanent residency (PR).

It requires you to commit as an individual to meeting basic needs and financially support that person.

HOW IS COVID-19 IMPACTING FAMILY VISA SPONSORSHIP?

Family visa sponsorship applications are still being accepted by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

While the coronavirus pandemic has slowed the processing of sponsorship applications, the Canadian government is still looking for creative and gentle methods to reconnect families.

Some of the changes made are as follows:

  • To shorten wait times and rapidly process applications, IRCC has hired more employees who will assess husband/wife sponsorship applications.
  • The IRCC is launching a pilot project to employ modern technology to digitize paper applications for quicker processing.
  • The IRCC has stated that it may use biometric facilitation measures and technology to conduct remote interviews with candidates.
  • You can still sponsor your husband/wife, parent, grandparent, child, or another family member if you get Employment Insurance and Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), as long as you complete all the sponsoring conditions.
  • You will not be required to fail on your responsibilities if the person you sponsored obtained Employment Insurance (EI) or CERB throughout the undertaking.

CAN I BE A SPONSOR?

To sponsor someone in your family, you must have Canadian citizenship or permanent residence. You must be at least 18 years old and be economically capable of supporting the sponsored individual for several years.

WHOM CAN I SPONSOR?

Husbands and wives, as well as common-law partners, Children who are reliant, Grandparents, and parents. There are exceptions to this restriction. You may be able to sponsor a non-related family member (such as a sister, niece, or uncle) if you have no other immediate family members to sponsor or if you have legally adopted them. They satisfy the description of a dependent child.

HOW TO APPLY FOR FAMILY SPONSORSHIP

Make sure you satisfy the requirements to be a sponsor.

  • Double-check that the relatives you want to sponsor are eligible. You must forward your case to the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on the national level.
  • If you are a Quebec resident, you are supposed to put your case to the Ministry of Immigration, Francization, and Integration at the provincial level (MIFI). You must submit your sponsorship application along with the applications for permanent residency (PR) status of your family or relatives all at the same time.
  • Your PR application will be examined once you have been determined to be qualified to sponsor. You must pay the application cost for family sponsorship.  Make sure your application is sent to the correct address.
